MADRID – Police in Spain have arrested a 19-year-old on suspicion of having links to the Islamic State terror organization, the interior ministry said on Monday.
The Spanish national of Moroccan origin was detained in the upscale northwestern Majadahonda suburb of Spain’s capital city of Madrid.
“He was very active online and used several different social media profiles to transmit and receive Daesh propaganda,” a statement from the ministry said, using an alternative acronym for the IS.
He began to be radicalized at the age of 16, the statement added.
Since Spain’s government raised its terror alert to the second highest level, Spanish police have arrested over 200 people suspected of maintaining links with the IS.
