JERUSALEM – Israel’s security forces attacked a training compound in Gaza belonging to Islamist organization Hamas, according to an Israel Defense Forces statement on Monday.
The attack was carried out in response to two rockets that were fired into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip on Sunday night.
“In response to the rockets launched towards southern Israel, IAF (Israeli Air Force) aircraft targeted a Hamas training compound in the northern Gaza Strip,” the statement said.
“The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization accountable for this hostile act originating from Gaza,” it added.
The attack on the Hamas compound took place shortly before 4:00 am.
On Sunday at around 9:00 pm, two rockets from Gaza triggered sirens in Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, in eastern Israel, the IDF said.
Since Dec. 6, when United States President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel, Palestinian militants have launched around 20 rockets from Gaza towards Israeli territory, Palestinian sources in Gaza told EFE.
