Pope Francis to Say Mass in Honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis is to celebrate a Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of Mexico and of Latin America, Vatican officials confirmed on Thursday.

The Mass will take place at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City on Dec. 12, the feast day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and will be preceded by a period of veneration.

Popular and traditional Latin American songs are also planned to be chanted during the Mass, which will be broadcast live on TV to several Latin American countries.

The following day, the Pontifical Commission for Latin America will meet in the auditorium of the Patristic Institute Augustinianum to study the messages delivered by the Virgin of Guadalupe.
