BOGOTA – Air travel increased 3.7 percent between January and May to 14.58 million passengers, compared to 14.05 million in the same five-month period last year, the Colombian Civil Aviation Agency (Aerocivil) said Monday.
The number of passengers flying to foreign destinations grew 6.1 percent from 4.5 million in January-May 2016 to 4.8 million in the first five months this year, Aerocivil said in statement.
Domestic air travel grew by 2.6 percent to 9.7 million passengers, compared to 9.4 million in the first five months of 2016.
Between January and May, freight traffic increased 7.1 percent to 342,906 tons, compared to 320,184 tons in the same period a year earlier.
Air freight bound for foreign destinations grew 9.4 percent, while air cargo traffic to domestic destinations decreased by 1 percent, Aerocivil said.
