CARACAS – Leaders from the opposition Popular Will party in Venezuela, Yon Goicoechea and Delson Guarate, were released from prison with precautionary measures on Saturday, their party members said.
“My brothers Yon Goicoechea and Delson Guarate freed with precautionary measures. They should never have been deprived of their freedom,” Popular Will politician and town councilman of Miranda, Alfredo Jimeno, wrote on his Twitter account.
Goicoechea was arrested in August last year for allegedly planning a coup against Nicolas Maduro’s government, powerful Chavista Diosdado Cabello had said then.
Meanwhile, Guarate, the mayor of the Mario Briceño municipality in the central Aragua state, was arrested on the eve of an opposition march on Sept. 1, 2016, in Caracas by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service on charges of financing terrorism and engaging in criminal association.
