Spanish Government to Fund Education Initiatives in Latin America

MADRID – Spain’s foreign ministry and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) signed on Tuesday a cooperation agreement.

The accord – signed by the Spanish secretary of state for international cooperation and for Ibero-America, Jesus Gracia, and OEI Secretary-General Alvaro Marchesi – sets forth that Spain’s AECID foreign assistance agency will have among its priorities financing the Summit Programs managed by OEI.

By means of this accord, the OEI commits itself to supporting the programs associated with the 2012 Ibero-American Educational Goals via the Solidarity Fund for Education set up at the 2010 Ibero-American Summit.

Meanwhile, AECID will have among its priorities financing – in its budgets for 2013 – projects managed by OEI, especially the initiatives approved at the Ibero-American Summits.

Among the efforts likely to receive support from AECID are the Ibero-American Plan for Literacy and Basic Education of Young People and Adults and the Pablo Neruda Program for university mobility. EFE
