Four Men Gunned Down by Guatemalan Ministry

GUATEMALA CITY – Four men were gunned down near the Government Ministry in Guatemala City, but two women with the group were not hurt, officials said.

The men were attacked early Saturday by gunmen traveling in a vehicle, police said, citing eyewitnesses.

The four bodies ended up on the side of the entrance to the Government Ministry’s parking lot in downtown Guatemala City.

Two of the victims, Juan David Ramos Diaz, a 25-year-old Guatemalan, and Jefferson Andreu Avalos Marroquin, a 24-year-old who may be from Colombia, were identified by police.

The four men and two women were returning to a hotel from a disco when they were attacked.

Guatemala, which has a homicide rate of 40 per 100,000 residents, is considered one of the most violent countries in Latin America.
