Six Killed in Bus Crash in Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO – Six people were killed and another six were injured when their bus crashed into a power-line stanchion and burst into flames, Dominican authorities said.

The report said that five of the victims died at the scene of the accident and a sixth died while being taken to Santo Domingo’s Ney Arias Lora Hospital.

“We know that several of the bodies were charred by the fire that consumed the bus,” a civil defense official who asked to remain anonymous told Efe.

News posted on the Internet said that the bus driver lost control while speeding around a curve, and that the passengers were returning from an excursion to a river in the municipality of Santo Domingo Norte. EFE
