The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision-makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts.

JOB SUMMARY:

CSIS is seeking a Deputy Director and Senior Fellow (or Fellow at the more junior level) to join the Americas Program. She/he reports to Michael Matera, Director and Senior Fellow of the Americas Program. Under the supervision of the Americas Director, the Deputy Director and Fellow/Senior Fellow manages the day-to-day workflow of the Americas Program together with the Director and Americas team and plays a key role in supporting the Director to advance all Americas Program initiatives. The Deputy Director and Fellow/Senior Fellow will be responsible for daily managerial responsibilities, personnel management, and fundraising. The Deputy Director and Fellow/Senior Fellow will be responsible for producing program content, with a specific focus on Mexico. The Director will also look to the Deputy Director and Fellow/Senior Fellow to be an active contributor to major programmatic decisions, to be a key adviser, and to actively support strategic planning for the Americas Program. The position will be hired as a Fellow or Senior Fellow based on qualifications towards required skills and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Deputy Director and Fellow/Senior Fellow reports to the Americas Director. Functions may include, but are not limited, to the following:

Manages and coordinates the day-to-day work flow of the Americas Program in close consultation with the Americas Program Director.
Produces reports, commentaries, and blogs; takes a major role in strengthening the Americas Programís communication and outreach strategy.
Works closely with the Director to develop applications and proposals for new opportunities; secures new and/or follow-on funding.
Supports the Director in managing relationships within CSIS and with external stakeholders and partners.
Plays a leadership role in convening expert groups, representing CSIS Americas publicly, and chairing and leading Americas events, workshops, and international exchanges.
Provides thought leadership and strategic guidance for the Americas Program.
Leads both individual and collaborative research projects that advance critical Latin American issues.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

M.A./M.S. required, PhD preferred.
At least 10 years professional and research experience in Latin American and Caribbean issues, with particular expertise on Mexico and Central America.
Experience managing personnel.
Superior writing, editing, and analytical skills.
Ability to operate under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to plan and lead complex events and/or conferences.
Strong communication and convening skills including the ability to effectively present information.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success working in highly collaborative, team based environments with a demonstrated commitment to professional development, mentoring, and education.
Fluency in Spanish required, Portugese and/or French a plus.
