Internacional Defeats Alianza Lima 2-0 in Copa Libertadores

SAO PAULO – Two goals from Uruguayan striker Nico Lopez in just 12 minutes on Wednesday helped Internacional to a 2-0 victory over Alianza Lima and kept the Brazilian team top of Group A of the Copa Libertadores.

The striker launched in the eighth minute with a snapshot from the front and repeated another shot in the 19th, deceiving Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

Alianza Lima played with their hands tied throughout the match and in the clearest opportunity it had, the Internacional goalkeeper took the shot of Ugarriza a few meters from the goal line.

This is the second victory of the Porto Alegre team in the same number of days, placing it as the undisputed leader of Group A with six points, ahead of River Plate – the last champion of the tournament – with two.

The Internacional put the game into fifth gear from the first whistle. In the second minute, Iago built a wall with Sobis and the left wing moved to the small area, but his shot was stopped by the Gallese.

Internacional wanted the first goal as soon as possible and for that they imposed very high pressure, which took effect sooner than expected.

Lopez received the ball from Pottker 24 meters from the goal, controlled it and shot it to the left side of Gallese.

With the goal, the Brazilians changed their strategy and decided to give initiative to the Alliance, who advanced their positions in search of a draw and almost got it if it were not for Lomba’s miraculous save from the shot of Ugarriza.

The Brazilian goalie jumped like a cat and dispersed the ball with his hands in a spectacular movement.

But before the Peruvians went back to attack, the second blow of Lopez came.

The play started with a pumped pass and Sobis’ place for Lopez. The Uruguayan left his first marker, shuffled and shot between several men. Gallese could do nothing to avoid the second.

After the break, the rush of Internacional disappeared, while Alianza Lima ran behind the leather aimlessly and when they had the ball in their possession, they did not know what to do with it.

The Peruvians, who were far from the version they showed against River, rarely approached the rival goal with risk. The wingers Jose Manzaneda and Kevin Quevedo were timid and the second yellow card came in the 62nd minute.
