JOHANNESBURG – A new movement that encourages people to start the day dancing with strangers and friends in a secret location is gaining popularity and followers in South Africa.
Secret Sunrise, a movement which first emerged in Zambia, aims to get people to bounce out of bed straight onto the dance floor to start the day in a joyful and energetic way.
“What a dance party! What’s better than waking up early to get into the groove before work? Nothing! Especially when it’s you lot. Thank you for the best morning ever,” a reveler said on Instagram after joining the Wednesday Secret Sunrise party in Johannesburg.
Part of the format of the event is that punters don’t know where the party is set to take place until organizers send them information about the location.
Revelers also listen to the music they dance to on wireless headphones which widens the scope of where events can take place enormously.
Secret Sunrise is part of a wider global movement that has seen people of all ages flocking to unconventional parties with a distinct feel-good factor and a focus on community spirit and, in the case of Zambian collective, respect for the environment.
“Secret Sunrise is a global movement and platform to share positivity and get the world grooving, celebrating, feeling united in joy, and making a global change,” organizers of the day-party explained on their website.
