GAZA CITY – A Palestinian was shot dead on Thursday and another four were wounded by Israeli soldiers near the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip, according to a spokesperson for Gaza’s health minister.
Although Ashraf al-Qedra did not provide more details, the Palestinian state-run news agency WAFA cited a medical source as saying that an unidentified Palestinian was shot in the head and killed.
The incident took place when a group of protesters approached the fence, Palestinian local media reported.
When asked by EFE, the Israeli army did not provide any comment on whether a violent incident took place on the border.
The tension on the border fence increased in wake of the Great March of Return, weekly rallies that started on March 30 calling for the right of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return to their homeland inside what is now Israel.
Since then, over 200 Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli forces.
