Samsung Unveils Foldable Smartphone

SEOUL – Samsung said on Thursday it had unveiled foldable display technology that lets a smartphone unfold into a tablet.

The Infinity Flex display is designed to offer a new experience to users, combining the benefits of a compact phone as well as those larger screened phones, Samsung said in a statement.

The technology is said to be a major hallmark of the next generation smartphones from Samsung and was presented for the first time at the Samsung Developers Conference in San Francisco, United States on Wednesday night.

The size of the Infinity Flex OLED screen is 4.58 inches and can be expanded up to 7.3 inches.

Samsung also introduced the new One UI interface for the Android operating systems of its clean and minimalist devices, designed to facilitate the use of the touch screen with one hand.

The South Korean giant had earlier announced its plans to be the first company with foldable screen smartphones before any of its competitors including the United States’ Apple or China’s Huawei that also make devices with similar features.
