RIO DE JANEIRO Ė AC Milan beat out Paris Saint-Germain and several other top European clubs to secure a deal for budding Brazilian star Lucas Paqueta, media outlets in Brazil reported Wednesday.
Flamengo agreed to send the 21-year-old midfielder to Milan in January for 35 million euros ($40.3 million), Brazilian sports Web site Lance said, citing sources at the Rio de Janeiro club.
Doctors commissioned by AC Milan to examine the player stated that the player is in good shape, according to Lance.
The transfer is expected to be officially announced this Thursday and Paqueta will sign a five-season contract, valid starting January next year.
The interest generated by the Brazilian player took Flamengo to establish a 50 million euro rescission clause.
Paqueta turned down PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United.
The negotiation with Milan was carried out by former Brazilian soccer player Leonardo, the Italian sideís sporting director.
