BEIJING – Prince Albert II of Monaco met on Friday with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People as part of an official visit that also included the inauguration of an exhibition on Monegasque history in the Forbidden City of the Chinese capital.
Xi and Albert II inspected Chinese troops during the meeting held at the headquarters of the Chinese legislature, after which they held another meeting to review relations between China and the Mediterranean nation.
Albert II inaugurated on Thursday the exhibition at the Forbidden City in Beijing “Princes and Princesses of Monaco, a European Dynasty,” a review of the history of the Grimaldi House from the 13th to the 21st century.
The exhibition in the old imperial palace displayed paintings, dresses, jewels and other daily artifacts to provide Beijingers a glimpse into the dynasty that became especially famous in the 20th century following the marriage between Prince Rainier III (father of Albert II) and actress Grace Kelly.
The exhibition has been opened to the public from Friday and will remain there until Nov. 11.
