MADRID – Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos visited on Monday the last destination of his European tour, which ended with a meal at the Spanish royal palace with King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.
The monarchs received Santos and his wife at the Zarzuela Palace, where they had a light lunch together.
Santos arrived in Spain on Sunday and met with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to discuss bilateral ties and the political situation in Venezuela.
His visit to the Mediterranean country was the end of a European tour that took him through Italy, Germany and Hungary and was his way of saying goodbye to the presidency after two mandates marked by his efforts to push through a peace process with the now-disbanded FARC rebels.
Colombia is to hold a first round of presidential elections on May 27.
