UK’s Prince Charles, Wife Camilla End Visit to Greece with Trip to Crete

ATHENS – The United Kingdom’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, tied up their official visit to Greece on Friday with a trip to the island of Crete.

On the final day of a three-day visit to Greece, the royals visited the archaeological site of Knossos, which remained open to the public at Charles’ request.

Charles, who is next in line to the throne to succeed Queen Elizabeth II, and Camilla were accompanied by Greek Culture Minister Lydia Koniordou and the director of the British School at Athens, John Bennet.

Bennet gifted Charles a replica of Minoan cup, while he gave Camilla a Minoan-style brooch.

Charles, whose father Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was born on the Greek island of Corfu, was visiting Greece for a second time, having visited back in 1998.

Greece is the only European Union member state, and once of the few in the world, that the Queen has not officially visited in her 66 years on the throne.
