CLEVELAND – New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius hit two home runs to seal his team’s berth in the American League Championship Series with a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.
The Yankees won the best-of-five division series 3-2 against the Indians, who are the American League Central division champions and hold the modern Major League Baseball winning-streak record.
With this win, the Yankees will now take on the Houston Astros, who beat the Boston Red Sox 3-1 in the other ALDS.
Gregorius was the star of the Yankees’ attack with two home runs in the first three innings while Brett Gardner added two crucial runs during the ninth inning.
Reliever David Robertson pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, while Cuban closer Aroldis Chapman covered the last two innings for the Yankees.
