Math Teacher Is One-Millionth Visitor to Expo Astana 2017

ASTANA Expo Astana 2017 received on Tuesday its one-millionth visitor, a high school math teacher who makes her home in the Kazakh capital.

Gulzhikhan Zhanabergenova pushed through the turnstile at the north entrance exactly a month and a day after Expo 2017s opening ceremony on June 10.

She told reporters that it was actually her second visit to the specialized international expo. This time she came with her husband and baby daughter.

The director of Expo Astana 2017, Akhmetzhan Yessimov, congratulated the teacher and presented her with a Samsung Galaxy tablet, a charger, expo knick-knacks and a season pass to the event.

Expo Astana 2017, whose theme is Future Energy, will remain open until Sept. 10.

Between 3 million and 5 million people, mostly from Kazakhstan, Russia and China, are expected to visit Astana for the three-month-long expo, which aims to highlight the importance of moving toward a global energy system based on renewable sources.
