Taiwan Thanks Panamanian Ambassador for Improved Bilateral Ties

TAIPEI – Taiwan’s president thanked Thursday the outgoing Panamanian ambassador for his contribution toward strengthening bilateral ties.

Tsai Ing-wen praised Alberto Martiz Fuentes for his diplomatic efforts to strengthen economic, cultural and political ties between Taiwan and Panama, and congratulated him for his new post of Social Security Director, after the previous Director Estivenson Giron resigned in December.

The Taiwanese president, who met Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela in June, said she had invited him to visit Taiwan.

Top Panamanian officials such as its mayor Jose Isabel Blandon Figueroa, president of the Supreme Court Jose E. Ayu Prado and the first lady of Panama Lorena Castillo visited Taiwan after Alfredo Martiz assumed office of the ambassador in October 2014.

Panama is one of the 21 diplomatic allies of Taiwan, most of which are concentrated in Central America and the Caribbean.
