Russia’s Foreign Ministry Summons Israeli Ambassador over Bombing in Syria

MOSCOW – Russia’s foreign ministry said on Monday that it summoned the Israeli ambassador to Moscow in order to explain the attack on the Syrian forces in the central city of Palmyra.

The summoning of Gary Koren took place on Friday, when Russia, an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, expressed its concern over the air raids that took place on that day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov explained.

According to Russian news agency Interfax, the attack occurred next to a Russian military site.

The Syrian army reported that four Israeli aircraft attacked a military position on the road leading to Palmyra in the central province of Homs on Friday and that one of the aircraft was shot down by anti-aircraft defense.
