ASUNCION Ė A fire early Friday destroyed a building at the Paraguayan capitalís main bus depot and temporarily disrupted service while firefighters worked to put out the flames, the stationís director told EFE.
The blaze, which was extinguished after two hours, did not cause any injuries but destroyed some transportation company offices and facilities, Julio Benitez said, adding that it was too soon to quantify the damage.
The most-affected building was sealed off while forensic experts investigated the cause of the fire, which some media say may have been triggered by a short circuit.
Asuncion Mayor Mario Ferreiro visited the terminal Friday morning and told local radio that his office would launch an investigation.
The Asuncion bus depot provides transportation to destinations throughout Paraguay and to foreign cities such as Buenos Aires and Brasilia, serving roughly 25,000 people in a typical day, Benitez said.
