CARACAS – A collision early Thursday involving a large truck and a bus in the north-central Venezuelan state of Carabobo left 16 dead and at least 50 injured, authorities said.
“The traffic accident on the old Guigue-Valencia highway left 16 dead,” the head of the National Directorate for Civil Protection and Disaster Management (DNPCAD), Jorge Galindo, said on Twitter.
The accident occurred at around 6:30 am and involved a cement mixer truck and a bus carrying dozens of people.
Militarized police officers, firefighters and DNPCAD officials rushed to the scene and helped transfer the injured to nearby hospitals.
Galindo also uploaded several photos to Twitter that showed the extent of the damage to both vehicles.
Two weeks ago, five people died in a traffic accident in the nearby state of Miranda.
